At Panviman Resort Chiang Mai, we are dedicated to sustainability through responsible waste management, carbon reduction efforts, and eco-conscious practices across all departments.
At Panviman Resort Chiang Mai, each department is responsible for segregating waste at the source. Waste is categorized into food waste, recyclables, hazardous, and general waste. The resort has a detailed waste collection schedule, with dedicated staff for sorting, transporting, and processing all waste types to ensure minimal environmental impact.
Panviman Resort Chiang Mai embraces the 3R approach across all departments. We reduce unnecessary consumption by replacing black plastic bags with reusable sacks. Items like baskets and cloth bags are reused for daily operations. Organic waste is recycled into EM solutions and compost, while recyclable items such as bottles, paper, and cans are sent to certified recycling facilities.
The resort prioritizes eco-conscious packaging by replacing single-use plastics with biodegradable options such as areca palm leaf plates for welcome snacks. Refillable containers and reusable items are integrated into our daily service operations to minimize waste and promote sustainable consumption.
We collaborate with the Green Road project by donating cleaned and sorted plastics—such as milk cartons, bottle caps, and soft plastic wraps—which are transformed into recycled products like plastic bricks and prosthetics. This not only diverts waste from landfills but also contributes to meaningful community development.
Old linens and fabrics from the resort are donated to organizations such as the Save Elephant Foundation and stray dog shelters in Doi Saket. These donations support animal welfare while reducing textile waste, reinforcing our commitment to a circular and compassionate approach to sustainability.
Non-recyclable and general waste is disposed of through a controlled-air incinerator, which limits toxic emissions. This system is managed by trained staff and serves as an environmentally safer alternative to open burning, ensuring compliance with air quality and safety standards.
Food scraps, coffee grounds, coconut husks, and vegetable peels are collected and processed by the gardening team. These materials are transformed into compost or used as natural fertilizers and animal feed, effectively closing the loop in our waste management system.
Hazardous items such as batteries, fluorescent lamps, and aerosol cans are safely sorted and stored. These are sent to certified disposal facilities to prevent contamination of soil and water, reflecting our careful handling of environmentally sensitive materials.
Our resort engages with academic institutions including Chiang Mai University and University of Phayao to enhance sustainable practices. Staff are trained in eco-conscious operations, and we actively contribute to research and development on waste management and circular economy initiatives.
